Auray Technology Hosts O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2025, Fostering Steady Ecosystem Development

 

The O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2025, organized by the O-RAN ALLIANCE, successfully concluded in Bonn, Germany. As one of the co-hosting organizations, Auray Technology collaborated with 22 global mobile network operators, Open Testing and Integration Centers (OTICs), and leading academic and research institutions to advance the development and validation of O-RAN technologies. Held from February to May 2025, the PlugFest spanned 8 venues and 19 laboratories worldwide, drawing participation from 69 organizations, some of which were involved in multiple sessions. The event demonstrated the strong momentum of international collaboration across the O-RAN ecosystem.

 

The O-RAN PlugFest aims to provide a structured testing and integration framework in a neutral and collaborative environment, accelerating the development of products and solutions compliant with O-RAN ALLIANCE specifications. At each PlugFest, participants actively promote the advancement of O-RAN-based technologies and processes—validating open, intelligent, and virtualized Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions to speed up their deployment and operational maturity. 

 

Key Progress Showcased at O-RAN Global Spring PlugFest 2025:

Participants at this year's O-RAN Global Spring PlugFest demonstrated notable advancements across several critical areas, including:

  • Automated and Cloud-Native RAN Deployment and Testing: Innovations in deploying and testing RANs using automated and cloud-native approaches. 
  • AI-Driven Test Automation with Large Language Models (LLMs): Leveraging LLMs to enable intelligent reporting analysis and automatic test generation, leading to enhanced testing efficiency. 
  • Intelligent RAN Energy Saving: Demonstrations of 25% to 30% smart RAN energy savings, achieved through rApps on the Non-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (Non-RT RIC). 
  • Smart Network Efficiency and Service Assurance: Improved network efficiency and service assurance realized by combining cell switch rApps and xApps with traffic steering xApps. 
  • Integration of Open-Source O-RAN Components: Successful integration of open-source O-RAN components from various open-source communities within O-RAN networks. 
  • Transport Network Behavior Validation: Verification of transport network behavior under different deployment options, even during congestion and impairment. 
  • End-to-End Network Performance Testing: Comprehensive performance testing of end-to-end networks across a variety of scenarios. 
  • Consistent and Repeatable Testing: Effective collaboration fostering consistent and repeatable testing between laboratory and regional sites. 

 

"The O-RAN Global PlugFest plays a crucial role in accelerating innovation based on O-RAN Alliance specifications," stated Lin Chi, Co-Chair of the O-RAN Alliance Technical Steering Committee. He added, "Each PlugFest demonstrates the steady development of the O-RAN ecosystem, highlighting progress across a wide range of technologies, solutions, and services that enhance RAN deployment and operations. Particularly encouraging is the accelerating progress of O-RAN's intelligent and automated capabilities. O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2025 concluded with strong momentum, reaffirming the vitality and long-term potential of the O-RAN ecosystem. Through global stakeholder collaboration, O-RAN is poised to accelerate the evolution of open, intelligent, and virtualized RAN technologies.
